Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that evolved from Japanese Jujitsu, adapted by Carlos Gracie and his brothers. It focuses on ground fighting and submission grappling, allowing a smaller person to defeat a larger one through leverage rather than strength.

No, BJJ focuses exclusively on grappling without strikes. While some schools offer combat Jiu-Jitsu with open-handed strikes, they are exceptions. BJJ training emphasizes rolling (sparring) with full intensity in a safe manner, without the risk of striking injuries, making it effective for self-defense and mixed martial arts.

A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential. You’ll need a gi for traditional training or clean shorts and a t-shirt for No-Gi. A mouthguard, flip-flops (to keep the mat clean), and a water bottle are also recommended for comfort and hygiene.

Yes, BJJ is safe and beneficial for children as young as four, teaching them discipline, teamwork, and respect. It can improve academic performance and reduce bullying.

BJJ uses a five-belt ranking system: white, blue, purple, brown, and black. Progression typically takes about two years per belt, with stripes indicating progress within each belt level. Our academy follows the IBJJF federation belt system.
